Church politicking measure advances, creating unintended risks

This is dangerous and terrifying. Churches get to pay zero taxes only if they stay out of politics. Trump and Republicans are working to let them keep their tax-exemption and fund politicians. That means anyone could funnel campaign money through tax-exempt church donations while church leaders tell their congregations who to vote for. Since churches don’t reveal their donors, no one would ever know who’s really funding campaigns. Now think about the potential for abuse – foreign governments, even terrorist groups could stay hidden while making donations to churches that support and finance candidates of their choosing. Republicans in Congress just brought us one step closer to this reality.
