Virtually Every Major Tech Company Opposing Trump’s Travel Ban

Nearly 100 of the nation’s leading tech firms – including Apple, Netflix, Google, Uber, and Microsoft – in a rare coordinated effort have filed court papers challenging President Trump’s ban on immigration from seven majority-Muslim nations, calling the executive order unlawful, discriminatory and arbitrary and saying that it would hurt their businesses. The papers were filed with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit, which is expected to rule within a few days on an appeal by the administration after a federal judge in Seattle issued a temporary restraining order putting the entry ban on hold.

New York Times notes below that while it is in the best interest for many of the companies to fight the ban, this action is more likely driven by the employees of these companies.

Since the executive order was issued, the companies have struggled to keep on the same page with their employees. Microsoft, for instance, initially made relatively muted comments that mostly celebrated immigration. Twenty-four hours later, it was much blunter, calling the order “misguided and a fundamental step backwards,” and saying it would create “much collateral damage to the country’s reputation and values.”

Here is the full list of companies that jointly filed the papers, and they should be praised for doing so:
